McCracken was a successful 1950s TV writer
Much of the story is told through the thoughts of the main character as he converses with others or is planning what he should do next; an interesting and creative approach to presenting the effects of a developing case of senility in the narrator, similar to the approach in the famous short story Flowers for Algernon
