Cast: Augusta Dabney, Alan Hewitt, Connie Lembcke, Mary Jane Higby, Robert Dryden

Notes:

No definitive information can be found about this author, but is one of the "new" writers that T5 was seeking to emphasize the fresh and contemporary approach of the series.

It is likely it is Marjorie Snowden Truitt, a local writer in Snowden, NC who was a regular submitter of anecdotes and other items to newspapers, especially in the 1940s.

Other details have been found about her that continue to point to her as the author.

The story is entertaining because the listeners are fairly certain it is the husband's body in the box but all of the neighbors can't bring themselves to fully and franky express it. There likely a subtle joke in the husband's name, "Mr. Wright," in the common cultural phrase related to seeking a marriage partner as they are "looking for Mr. Right."

On May 17, 2022, Kristi Noel wrote this comment on the Old Time Radio Researchers Facebook page:

I was listening to Theater Five and came across an episode called "Bug Off" from December 7, 1964. A teenage girl is babysitting a young boy who is sick and she's trying get ahold of the parents. In the meantime, she likes to tell lies and no one believes her when she tries to explain that the boy is sick. The parents live out the county where there is a party-line. Every time she picks up the phone, her classmates are on it and won't hang up so she can contact the parents.
I was surprised when after the parents left, the girl switches on a radio and guess what's playing? The Beatles' cover of 'Roll Over Beethoven.' When she returns to the living room to try and call again, we hear 'Thank You Girl' and then a snippet of their version of 'You Really Got A Hold On Me.' This was the real deal, no generic group sounding like The Beatles or something similar like they did with every TV show back then. Interesting how the production was allowed to use actual Beatles songs in this episode.
Thank you, Kristi, for your comment! T5 was making an effort to be "contemporary" and the "British Invasion" music was one of the ways to do that, for sure. It was less than a year after the Fab Four had their three appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show and they were taking the nation's music airwaves by storm.

T5#90 Sound Track of a Happy Family

Sound Track of a Happy Family
Genre: Human interest
Author: Robert A. Arthur
Production number:
88

Friday, November 13, 1964
Director:
Warren Somerville

Plotline: The Carter Family seem perfect and their move out to the country is the best thing that’s ever happened to them. So why is their beautiful country home suddenly for sale with everything just as they left it?

Listen: https://archive.org/details/T5project/Theater+Five+641204+090+Sound+Track+of+a+Happy+Family.flac

Cast: Augusta Dabney, Peter Fernandez, Bill Griffis, George Petrie, Rosemary Rice

Notes:

Ending credits identify Ted Bell as Executive Producer, an interim role after the death of Edward A. Byron on November 21. Lee Bowman would become executive producer in January 1965. It is not likely that Bell was made executive producer before Byron's passing, so this was probably noted in post-production when Foy's announcements of show credits would be edited in.

If there's any episode that indicates T5 was intended for night listening for adults, this is a compelling example. The ending is depressing, intended to emphasize the importance of appreciating the happy times and challenges of life in present moments. Robert Arthur is known for the kinds of supernatural and odd stories of Mysterious Traveler. This is a serious departure from that type of story.
